Ritu Raj: Abstraction as a Medium for Experience and Transformation

Abstraction, for me, is more than an artistic style—it is a lens through which we can explore and experience the world beyond representation. While it may seem unfamiliar to some, I see abstraction as essential to understanding the depths of human emotion, perception, and connection. Unlike conceptual art, which seeks to explain, abstraction invites a dialogue without words, allowing emotions and ideas to emerge organically.

My artistic philosophy is deeply influenced by Martin Heidegger’s belief that art reveals the essence of being. I see my work as an evolving experience—one that challenges perception, evokes emotion, and invites introspection into reality, consciousness, and spirituality.

A polymath by nature, my background spans mathematics, cloud computing, entrepreneurship, linguistics, dog hospitality, lab-grown diamonds, and fine art. This diverse foundation informs my approach, where scientific precision meets creative expression. My work fuses geometric abstraction, rich textures, and continuous experimentation, often drawing inspiration from technological advancements to push artistic boundaries with new materials and techniques.

My artistic process is deeply improvisational—while I may have a concept in mind, each painting unfolds spontaneously, evolving through movement, intuition, and layers of transformation. I often integrate photographs printed on canvas, enhancing them with paint to create multidimensional compositions. My style shifts between gestural and geometric abstraction, with occasional figurative elements emerging, reflecting my dynamic temperament. Vibrant, bold colors define my work, radiating joy and inviting awe.

In times of uncertainty, I believe art has the power to offer reflection, joy, and hope. I invite viewers to engage with my work, to find their own narratives within the interplay of form, color, and texture—a journey into the infinite possibilities of abstraction.
